An eternity ring carries a continuous line of stones along the band — half-way around in a half-set, all the way in a full set. Worn alongside the engagement and wedding rings, it adds a quiet third register to the stack.

The decision between half-set and full-set is partly practical, partly aesthetic. A half-set rests stones across roughly the top hemisphere of the band, leaving the inside plain — comfortable for everyday wear and capable of being resized later. A full set wraps the entire circumference and reads as a brighter, more uniform ring, but cannot be resized without rebuilding the setting. Stone choice follows the wearer's taste: natural or lab-grown diamonds in classic settings, emerald and sapphire in gemstone-set styles, and a range of cut shapes within the diamond options where the design supports them.

The collection is made to order in 18ct white, yellow or rose gold, with platinum available on half-set and main eternity styles. Every diamond over 0.10ct is independently certified, every ring is hallmarked at the Birmingham Assay Office, and every order includes complimentary UK delivery and a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. We also offer a matching-stone service where the eternity ring's diamonds are selected to match the cut and colour of the engagement ring's centre stone — useful when the two rings will be stacked daily.

Eternity rings are traditionally given as anniversary gifts — most commonly the first, the tenth, and the twenty-fifth — or to mark the birth of a first child. There is no fixed convention, only the one each couple chooses. Browse by setting style if the engagement ring uses a distinctive setting and the eternity ring should echo it; browse by metal if the stack already includes platinum or 18ct gold; browse by stone if a particular cut or colour will define how the three rings read together.

Half-set vs full-set eternity ring: which to choose?

Half-set is the more practical choice. The diamonds cover the top of the band where they're visible; the underside is plain, allowing the ring to be resized later and to sit more comfortably against the finger throughout the day.

Full-set wraps stones around the entire circumference, which produces a brighter, more uniform appearance from every angle but locks the ring at its current size — most full-set bands cannot be resized without dismantling and rebuilding the setting. For a first eternity ring given on an early anniversary, half-set tends to make better long-term sense: the wearer's finger size may change with pregnancy, weight change, or simply age, and the ring can adapt. Full-set is more commonly chosen for milestone anniversaries — twenty-five, fifty — where the symbolism of an unbroken line of stones is the entire point and resizing is an unlikely concern.

When is an eternity ring traditionally given?

An eternity ring is traditionally given on a wedding anniversary — most commonly the first, the tenth, or the twenty-fifth — or to mark the birth of a first child. There is no fixed rule, only the moment each couple decides.

In the UK, the first-anniversary tradition is the most established, with a smaller stone weight and a slimmer band signalling the start of a longer line. The tenth-anniversary version typically increases the stone size, often moves to a wider half-set, and may shift metals to match an updated engagement ring or wedding band. The twenty-fifth — silver anniversary — is the most common occasion for a full-set eternity ring, where the unbroken circle of stones reads as the symbolic centrepiece. Outside these conventions, many couples now give eternity rings on the birth of a first child, a milestone birthday, or any moment they choose to mark.

How wide should an eternity ring be?

Most eternity rings sit between 2mm and 3.5mm wide. The width is dictated by the stone size and by how the ring sits alongside the engagement and wedding rings — too thick and the stack feels crowded; too thin and the proportions read off.

A useful default: match the eternity ring's width within 0.5mm of the wedding band, and choose stone size based on how visible the ring should be when worn alone. For a half-set with 0.05ct round brilliants, a 2mm band is the typical proportion; for 0.10ct stones, 2.5mm; for 0.15ct or larger, 3mm or more. Baguette and emerald-cut stones tend to need slightly wider bands to support their length. The most common combination we deliver is a 2.5mm half-set platinum eternity ring with 0.10ct round brilliants, paired against a 2.5mm flat-court platinum wedding band — proportionate, balanced, and resizable.

Can an eternity ring be resized later?

Half-set eternity rings can usually be resized by one to two sizes — the plain underside of the band allows the metal to be cut, joined, and re-shaped without disturbing the stones. Full-set eternity rings cannot be resized without rebuilding the setting.

If a full-set ring no longer fits, the practical options are: re-set the stones into a new band at the new size (essentially a remake, charged at workshop rates plus the difference in metal weight), wear the ring on a different finger, or wear it on a chain as a pendant — a more common choice than people expect. We recommend ordering full-set eternity rings only when the wearer's finger size is stable and the ring is intended as a milestone piece. For everyday wear from a first anniversary forward, half-set is the safer specification.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an eternity ring and a wedding ring?

A wedding ring is exchanged at the ceremony and worn daily thereafter; it is usually plain or set with only a small accent of stones. An eternity ring is given later — typically on an anniversary or the birth of a child — and is defined by a continuous line of stones along the band, either half-way around or fully encircling the finger.

Are your eternity rings made to order?

Yes. Every eternity ring in this collection is made to order in our UK workshop, with the diamonds individually selected and certified before setting. Standard turnaround is six weeks; bespoke designs or unusual stone shapes may extend to eight. A CAD preview is shared at the end of week one for sign-off, with one round of revisions included at no cost.

Can I match an eternity ring to my engagement ring?

Yes. We offer a matching-stone service in which the eternity ring's diamonds are selected to match the cut grade, colour, and clarity of your engagement ring's centre stone. This is most relevant for round brilliant rings where the eternity stones will sit visibly alongside the centre stone. Send us the engagement ring's certificate and we'll quote against matching specifications.

How long does an eternity ring take to make?

Six weeks from order confirmation is standard. Week one is design and stone selection; weeks two to four are casting, setting, and finishing; week five is hallmarking at the Birmingham Assay Office; week six is final polish, inspection, and insured UK delivery. We share progress at each stage and the CAD preview is sent in week one before any metalwork begins.

What metal should I choose for an eternity ring?

Match the metal to the engagement and wedding rings already worn — eternity rings are almost always stacked, and a mismatch reads quickly. If the existing stack is platinum, choose platinum; if it's 18ct yellow or rose gold, follow that. The exception is when the eternity ring is intended as a standalone piece worn on a different finger, in which case the metal is chosen freely.
